Training at the SABC studios in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa was arranged over a period of a week by Wild and Marr and hosted by Studer’s experienced Application Engineer Christoph Wirth. SABC KZN utilizes six Studer OnAir 3000 modular consoles. Lotus FM and Ukhozi FM are the two prominent radio stations making use of these consoles. Ukhozi FM probably has the second largest listener base in the world with an estimated 6 million listeners. This is also probably the biggest listener base in the southern hemisphere.
Every effort was made to train and provide necessary product support to the technical staff at SABC KZN, starting with the upgrade of all six OnAir 3000 consoles to the latest version software V4.0. It is worth mentioning that some of these consoles have been in operation for over six years and the only thing that had to be done to accommodate this software upgrade was to increase the memory capability on some of the older systems.
The functionality and advanced new features means that the product can be used more efficiently and streamlines a lot of standard operation procedures in its home environment of broadcasting. To better understand the new software features when compared to the older version, Christoph ensured that these were identified and discussed during the training period, thus enabling the opration staff to make full use of the new features
The newly launched exciting OnAir 1500 console, has taken the broadcast industry by storm. The training workshop was a perfect platform for introducing this compact and cost-effective digital mixing console.
The speedy rate at which technology is advancing, it is important to keep up to date with the latest software available for the applicable products. The digital mixing consoles are always advancing enabling broadcasters in reaching audiences around the country.
The effort made in updating product software and teaching our customers about new product features, indicates Wild and Marr’s level of commitment and support to its customers.
With the kind of training provided and strategies implemented, SABC KZN is able to operate at a professional standard and paves the way for future projects.
