Wellness in Motion
Wild and Marr was approached to assist with the design and installation of a state of the art background
music system for the Wellness in Motion fitness centre, in an elegant apartment building in Sandton.
After discussions with the client Darren Durbach set
about designing a system that would offer versatility
and ease of use.
The gym is divided into a number of different sections
including the treatment (SPA) rooms, pool area, free weights section, cardiovascular area, change
rooms, reception area and the coffee bar.
We installed a DBX ZonePro 640 digital programmable
zone controller to allow for different music sources in
the various areas and also to allow for dedicated volume controls in the sections.
The free weights section and cardiovascular area are
high energy areas and work together as one zone. We
installed 12 of the JBL 8” ceiling mount 8128 wide
dispersion loudspeakers for this area, using a channel of a Crown CDi1000 power amplifier. The change rooms are fitted with JBL 8124 ceiling mount 4” loudspeakers and form part of the cardiovascular and free weights zone.
As the pool area is a high noise area we have used the
JBL Control 26CT ceiling mount loudspeakers. The coaxial Control 26CT has good directivity and is able to project over a large distance (high ceiling) and overcome the reflective ambient noise associated with indoor pools. The pool area is powered using the second channel of the Crown CDi 1000 power amplifier.
Treatment rooms have a zone of their own as the type of content played in this area would be relaxing sounds of nature, streams, birds, and similar calming and therapeutic sounds. Each treatment room has its own volume control and JBL 4” 8124 ceiling mount loudspeaker. The treatment area uses a channel of an Inter-M PA2312 dual channel 120W power amplifier.
The reception area of the apartment building, which is also the entrance for the Wellness in Motion Centre, has a background music zone which works in conjunction with the coffee bar. Due to the double volume nature of the space we have installed surface mount JBL Control 23T loudspeakers to control the audio and reduce unnecessary reverberence. The coffee shop is fitted with 10 JBL 8128 8” ceiling mount wide dispersion loudspeakers. Both the coffee shop and the reception area have individual volume controls. The coffee bar and reception area uses the second channel of the Inter-M PA2312 power amplifier.
In order to supply four different music genres to the different zones, we have supplied Wellness in Motion with a REQUEST F4, four channel music server. This unit is able to use a common database of music with pre-defined playlists and is able to play out the music across the four channels simultaneously. |
